OUR PASTOR OUR CHURCH CALENDAR IN MINISTRY
Spring 2007 Youth Week of Prayer

LET DOWN YOUR NET…

On Saturday, March 23, 2006, New Hope began its Youth Week of Prayer with a compelling sermonette from Pastor Stephen Brooks. Pastor Brooks is currently serving as the Youth Director for the South Atlantic Conference. Anyone watching Pastor Brooks will observe his passion, energy and easy-going nature which make his message hard to ignore. Furthermore, he engages his audience by relating his message to both the young and the young at heart.

Consequently, when he told us “Let down your net,” we were all interested to know: “Where is his sermon going tonight?” Pastor Brooks reminded most and told others that the Christian experience was not about comfort and entertainment, but about a mission that was given to us by Jesus. The mission left to us was to save souls and not to concern ourselves with trivial matters. In order to complete our Christian mission, we must follow the three guidelines Jesus left us.

    1. Launch out to the deep.
    2. Let down your net.
    3. Prepare for a catch.

The first step is telling us to get out our comfort zone, which we fondly call the sanctuary, and go out into the streets, and into different neighborhoods. Once we have left the comfort zone then we need to proclaim the word, hand out tracts, or invite an acquaintance to worship on Sabbath. After steps one and two are completed, with faith and help from the Holy Spirit we wait for the change in the unconverted.

If we diligently work on the mission Jesus left us, then when he returns and asks, “Have you been faithful with the tasks I have given you?” we can answer with joy.
