Introduced in the early 1990’s, the Bible Bowl Ministry at New Hope SDA is one of the strongest in all of South Atlantic Conference and the Southern Union. This ministry is the only North American Division sponsored youth ministry that is totally geared toward active reading, learning, and studying of the Word.

Divided into 5 categories, there is a team for everyone! The ministry begins at the ADVENTURER division [ages 6-9] with 2 books, continuing on with the JUNIOR YOUTH [ages 10-15] who study 5 books and SENIOR YOUTH [ages 16-22] with 6 books, and culminating with the YOUNG ADULT [ages 23-35] and ADULT [ages 35+] divisions, both which study 7 books of the Bible.

Played similar to the College Bowl, or Jeopardy, the Bible Bowl participants find themselves seated, 2 teams - four at a table, buzzers in hand, eager to readily anticipate the 60 questions that are prepared to be asked in the 12 minute game. The participant who first buzzes in is given the opportunity to correctly answer the 10-point toss up questions in 4 seconds, and in turn, win the team the right to answer bonus questions ranging from 10-25 points. However, if he or she answers incorrectly, the same opportunity is extended to the other team. At the end of the first 6 minute half, teammates converse with coaches, as well as resolve any challenges that took place during the half.

At the end of the game, teammates readily show their camaraderie as they shake the hands of the members on the opposite team because in Bible Bowl NO ONE LOOSES! Each text that is engraved upon the heart of the reader can never be taken away and is stored deep in the heart, ready to be brought back to remembrance by the Holy Spirit whenever needed.

As a long time player, I can truly say that this ministry has indeed been an immense blessing to me. I have read books of the Bible that normally I would not have read. As a youth, I can also say that Bible Bowl is the reason why I faithfully read my Bible. The study sessions that we have together with players on different levels also boosts your understanding and allows you to see the gospel in a totally different way. Bible Bowl has shown me that the Bible is REAL! As a result, my spiritual life has been richly enhanced; my faith tested, challenged, and built up.
